Is there an Apple Watch workout type for “yard work”? Did I just overlook it (completely likely — or, asking probably unfairly, do the fitness/HealthKit people at Apple just not have yards that they, themselves, work on)?

@muncman I use the ‘other’ workout a lot too. Lots of exercise comes from non ‘fitness’ activities.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they expand the options to more non-“fitness” activities someday. In the meantime, I’m all about “other.”
@muncman what type of yard do you have that you need to track calories when working on it?
Inb4 25 hectar trial-bike ranch 🤣
@microflow I’m this case, I was mostly just raking leaves, with a heart rate average of 110. But...I sometimes do stuff on my parents’ 241-acre tree farm, too. 😅
@muncman I wonder if Apple will use the Tile-like BLE tags to develop “fitness accessories”, being ie wristbands an leggings to track not only the positions of your one arm/general position, but accurate activity measurements. I guess weights are harder to measure… 🏃🏻♂️👨🏻🦽🚶🏻🕺🏌🏻♂️⛹🏻🏋🏻♂️🤼♂️🏂⛷🪂🤾🏼♂️🤺⛹🏻♂️🧘🏻🏄🏻♂️🤽🏻♂️
@muncman I got a bit carried away… I shouldn’t do that, it’s awful for people that use screen readers!
@muncman haha allright. I use "Workout++" and it has a massive pile of workout profiles. maybe check that out.
@muncman there isnt! and yard work (for me) is great for mental wellbeing so, track that time too. I've used HIT for digging tree holes.
@kurite I hear ya on the mental wellbeing part, and I can totally see how digging holes and HIT might go together. :)
@muncman In the past I used “other" but the calorie burn numbers were too high for what I was doing. Since watchOS 5-ish my watch (2nd Gen) has been picking up exercise mins and awarding more realistic cals burned without a workout on. (I cal count for munchies & crunchies.)
@SusanB Ah, yes, that’s a good point. I’ve had some luck with letting the watch detect exercise on its own, though it can seem to need a prompt from manually firing up the heart rate app to wake up and notice the activity for me. I’ll try it again next time and see what happens. 👍
@muncman Ooh, I hadn’t thought about starting the heart app to get it to notice I’m exerting myself more than normal. Thanks for the tip 👍
