@gr36 In my experience, at least for me it took a while. I was a little afraid to to engage with people for whatever reason. Then I started following more people, use the discover tab more often and engaged more.

@gr36 I’d say don’t be afraid to pop in when something interests you. Not everyone is responsive, but that’s okay.

@gr36 I'm pretty new around here but I think getting to know the community is well worth it even if it may take some time. Good platforms such as Micro.blog tend to attract good communities.

@gr36 I’ve started to follow lots of folks from the Discover tab. It’s helped me find new and prolific voices, which helps me want to read more and more often. I’m still struggling with what kinds of things I should post, though.

@gr36 to Build on what @Gabz and @walter said about Discover, if there are any of the Discover Tagmoji topics that match your interests, be sure and visit them often, too, to find people and conversations (and use the tagmoji in posts you make about the subject matter). // cc @Cheri @amoroso

I think we could all benefit from an updated, comprehensive set of suggestions for getting one’s feet wet here (I wrote about it a bit a long time ago, but a lot has changed/improved since then).

@smokey Being new here my community discovery process is based on a breadth and depth search at the same time.

It's a breadth search because I regularly check Micro.blog's main discovery tools such as the Timeline and Discover, as well as additional resources like yours. And I also go in more depth as I visit the blogs and profiles of contributors to discussions, following promising links in search for interesting people to follow.

@gr36 it really doesn’t take any time at all to blog, that is extra time, if you’re blogging already somewhere else. but yes it is small and it takes time to find people to follow who post interesting things. what is it that you want to do?

@amoroso That sounds like a quality strategy (and a good reminder about checking the user profiles)—it reminds me a bit of how we used to find things on the web in the old days: browse around, and then if something looks possibly interesting, dive into the rabbit hole and see where it leads :-)

@smokey And, of course, we checked What's New with NCSA and Mosaic daily.
