Finished reading 📚: Babel by R.F. Kuang.
Took me a while to get into this book, but I’m glad I stuck with it. A challenging novel about colonialism and how language is used as a tool of empire. I quite enjoyed it after the first ~20% or so.

@mindofaaronw I’m glad you finished the book. It was worth all the build up. I read all books from the author and I was fascinated by how vastly different each story was. Nonetheless, I think the writing quality, though very dry, in Babel is the best of all.

@Gaby I was very close to giving up. Took a few days off entirely and that helped

@ningkantida I quite enjoyed it by the end of the but it was tough at first. I’ve read the first Poppy War book and found that one easier overall. Like Kuang though!

@mindofaaronw In my opinion, the ending of the Poppy War series was a bit underwhelming. If you’re looking for a light and enjoyable read from the same author, I highly recommend Yellowface. This satirical book about the publishing industry had me laughing out loud numerous times.

@mindofaaronw Just a friendly advice, if you’re not enjoying the story after a few chapters, it’s perfectly fine to stop reading the book. I assure you, it only gets even more bizarre later on 😆

@ningkantida 100 pages minus your age is what someone told me once. Don’t follow it to the letter but works reasonably well
