Webmentions and Discuss on Micro.blog: blog.joshsullivan.io
@joshsullivan random question if you don’t mine. I have seen more of this domains formats like yours, blog.username.something , is that something you can get for any provider like hover?
@Gaby Yeah, it's just a CNAME record on your domain, for example my domain is joshsullivan.io and I set up, blog as the CNAME. So if you log into Hover you can add the CNAME record for "blog" and you can set your blog to be at that URL. Hover's Documentation on CNAME
@joshsullivan aaaaah! Cool! Thank you!
@joshsullivan and that’s also exactly how you set it up in your micro.blog account ? or you have your normal domain in your settings. Also is this an extra CNAME you add into hover , for example? I ask because currently in my CNAME I have the standard micro.blog host name. 🤔 (I think I’m supposed to have it that way)
@Gaby For my CNAME for Micro.blog I have the host as micro and value is set to joshsullivan.micro.blog so that I have a custom domain name for hosted Micro.blog blog. If you want to use a custom domain name on Micro.blog you can log into Hover and set the CNAME host as whatever you would like (ex. micro, blog, etc.), then gaby.micro.blog as the value. Then in Micro.blog you go to Account > Edit Domains & Design > Edit > Scroll down, and in the "your custom domain name" text box add the CNAME record, for example, micro.joshsullivan.io. Almost immediately you can go to that URL, and it will be your Micro.blog hosted blog.
@joshsullivan gotcha, yeah I played around with it and I think I got it figured it out. Thank you again.
@Gaby Let me know if you want a hand. My domain is from hover and that’s how I have my blog set up i.e. subdomain
@aqeelfikree thank you, I believe I have it figured it out. Apropos of nothing, I love the look of your blog, clean and simple.
