Best option for tracking the albums I listen to? Notion might work for this, but I want something I can enter simple data into, then get different views of that data. If I can publish it to the web somehow, that’s a bonus. Free is even better.

@skoobz I know you gave it a shot - thinking Album Whale isn’t going to be a DB sort of app with lots of filtering and view options, which is what it sounds like you’re looking for.

@skoobz Can’t think of one solution that does it all. If you use Last.fm, it would automatically track everything for you. If you connect it to ListenBrainz, the latter gives you a data export you could play around with (but no one-click web publishing).
I also use MusicBox to track albums with ratings and tags, but it’s neither free nor set up for web publishing.
I think no matter what you’ll have to do some extra work to complete the workflow.

@bjhess I mean, it could be an endpoint. While it isn’t automatic, creating a list of ten albums on Album Whale isn’t difficult.

@sherif I tried poking around in Craft, but it doesn’t quite do what I want. Notion gives me the data, but, it doesn’t publish from what I can tell. I’m still leaning towards it for the bulk of my work though.

@skoobz you can definitely make a Notion page public

@skoobz Yeah, we don’t plan to automate listening > album lists, though if it continues to be useful to people we probably will improve the interface to bring in real search.

@Gaby Not in this case. Looking at sortable data I can manipulate to create different views of it.

@skoobz gotcha! I would like something similar but I’m either not too smart or too lazy to put it together. The closest thing I have is this blog, i have a music likes category but that’s about it

@Gaby I just tested this with Notion and I like how it works. Basically, I wanted to be able to share my Best of 2022 list. Notion basically publishes your database, so you can flip through all the individual views you have set up for it. Looks just like the app.

@skoobz excited to see how this turns out. I’ve got my 2022 Media Calendar if you need any inspiration on properties / views.
