Consumers are so disconnected from what they consume now. We happily, joyfully pay for a new iPhone every year, but an app better be free or maybe $1, total, lest we complain.

@Mandalorian I like Agenda’s pricing model.

@Mandalorian I use Agenda mostly for work-related notes and email drafts. A web interface would be cool but for me, it’s not a deal-breaker since the apps sync across devices. I think Agenda’s model incentivizes continued development from their end instead of a flat monthly fee regardless of development.

@Gaby This thought has crossed my mind in terms of watches. I totally cringed at the idea of spending $350 on an entry level Hamilton watch, then I realized that’s what I paid for my Series 7 after trade in. The Hamilton will still work in 15 years as long as I’m good to it. Yet, here I am coughing up money for a new wrist computer every two to three years.

@Mandalorian Yeah, you put it well. App developers and other creators need to make a living, I can’t begrudge them that. But I also don’t make enough money to justify having 7575698 different subscriptions, one for every app I’ll ever use. Even though I wish the developers all the best, it’s much easier to cut costs with app subscriptions than groceries! @Gaby

@jayeless @Mandalorian , Yeah when it comes to subscriptions, it can get complicated very quick the more you add to your budget. I guess my take away from that article was more of the fact that people feel entitled to free or cheap software. I hear al the time, from people close to me, if there is a software they need but they don’t feel like they should pay for it, whether is a one-time payment or sub

@Gaby I hear this all the time too, and even from some relatively well off software developers(!). Personally I’m a bit skeptical about free software, if not open source.
