New post: Eight months without Facebook

@cheri Great post and though I am behind your curve on this by a bit I can see and feel the same things. I’ve stopped look at Facebook and plan to deactivate and delete within the next couple of months. In the mean time I’ve stepped up my campaigning to get the closed-group schools and PTAs to stop using FB or at least have an alternative.

@ronguest Groups are tough! I had to give a few up, but I know parents don’t always have that option when it comes to things like school announcements.

@cheri How do you mean, Cheri? I thought that was set up for just one-way newsletter syndication. You're using it like a group/forum?

@grayareas We pick our next book and meeting date during book club. (in person) Then we send out one email to the full list with location, date/time, and book information. (To inform anyone who wasn’t at book club) Then one more email 3 days before the event as a reminder. People reply to either email to RSVP.

@cheri I just deleted Facebook a few days ago, but Instagram will be the tough one because so much of my family is on there… loved your post

@cheri I deleted my FB account a while back too and have been glad I did. I wasn't a heavy Facebook user, though I went through phases where I was, so I don't think I've seen effects quite as big as you have, but I have definitely been surprised by how little I've missed it. I do occasionally wish I knew a bit more about what a few acquaintances were up to, but if I really want to find out I'll connect with them in a more meaningful way, which is nice. Anyway, great post! I especially like the part about being more intentional and careful about what tech you adopt.

@cheri Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I have never had a Facebook account, so I find stories about it from users and former users interesting.

@smith I had a harder time leaving Instagram than Facebook, for sure. I really wish they’d remained independent.

@cheri ugh me too. And it’s so sneaky, because I often forget it’s the same company. But I think I’m going to do it this month.
