@skoobz oh yes for sure. Watches, you can hand down and use in generations to come. Apple smart watch? Prob not. I have spent lots on Swiss watches and still desire them and that’s my problem. Especially, when I do not wear them that often. I think I have seen the world go from a traditional watch, to the smart era and I cannot let go of the the past. The beauty of Cartier’s, Omegas and Longines and many other brands, still have a piece of me.
@Munish I’m definitely intrigued by traditional watches. Part of it is a desire to be less plugged in, assuming I’d be just a little bit less scatterbrained. Just trying to find a happy medium with it all.
@Munish I don’t have any really fancy watches but I do have several mid-tier. I really like the way they look but even so I only put one on for a special occasion. I’m so attached to all the things my Apple Watch does for me especially since I upgraded to the always-on display.
@ronguest @Munish Apple does have some sense of horology, so I tend to stick to the faces that represent that the most, usually with the lowest number of complications. Being in a constant do not disturb state also helps with the nagging properties of it. Just give me the time, a quick glance at the weather, and may everything else hang out in the background until I say otherwise. On the other hand, I wouldn’t mind not spending $300+ to replace the thing every few years. I’d be happy to rock a traditional watch if I had some kind of health monitoring braclet for things the Apple Watch does on that end.
@skoobz @munish I have automations to change my watch face and complications based on day of week and time of day. E.g. on the weekend I use a very simple face with just the date and temperature complications. During working ours I use a more complex face. I switch between 4 or 5 during the course of the day/week.
Part of the reason the AW is a win for me is it effectively replaces the need to touch my iPhone except for a few specific cases. My iPhone is just a remote brain for my AW.
@maique @Gaby I still skip a beat for some apple products and some watches. Sad as it is, I like the old and the new way of working. Which is very expensive when combined.
@ronguest Wow! Can you share those automations? I do prefer some watch faces during some activities but am conflicted about utility vs look
@pratik Unlike Shortcuts AFAIK personal automations can’t be shared to someone. This Apple doc describes how to create a PA. The basic process is first to create the watch faces you want to use. Then activate the face you want to automate, follow the Apple process and in Add Action search for the “Set Watch Face” action. Turn off “Ask before running” and “Notify when run”. Then activate the next watch face and follow the same process.
