Why does my cat keep grabbing chunks of wet food out of her bowl, dumping them on the floor, then breaking them up and eating little pieces off there? 🤦🏻‍♀️ I swear I keep cleaning and cleaning and she’s always leaving me more work to do.

@jayeless Well, you may have answered your own question… 😆 Our dogs just hoover up food. Our neighbour’s dog isn’t very food oriented — she delicately takes 1 biscuit out of the bowl, retreats a little, eats it and goes back for another. And may well not eat or finish the meal at all.

@jayeless our cat does the same thing. She also manages to cover the immediate area surrounding the wet food dish with vast amounts of accidental crumbs. I’ve heard some cats don’t like their whiskers touching bowl edges and that can cause them to move their food elsewhere.

@jayeless Could be whisker fatigue. Our cat suffered from that, so we changed his bowl and the behavior stopped. betterwithcats.net/best-whis…

@Gaby Haha, kids and pets – so much in common!

@Miraz Yeah, Gidget isn’t very food oriented either – she has a little nibble when she gets hungry, and stops when she’s had enough. She doesn’t even get angry when Gizmo steals her food 😆 Gizmo is a lot more possessive but doesn’t have a huge appetite, so he spends a lot of time guarding his food but not eating it, haha

@jayeless try cleaning her bowl using another kind of dish soap. Our beagle (the nose with a dog connected to it) did the same when she associated her bowl’s smell with medicine (after we infused meds on her food). Had to clean the bowl several times.

@kurite @dsh1705 Hmm, we do have a shallower bowl that we used to feed her in, and I could try switching back to it in case it is the whisker issue. She doesn’t seem to do the same with her dry food though, which we put in an identical bowl to the dry food, so I’m not sure, but possible.

@rom We can try that too! Poor beagle 😂

@jayeless our cat will smash her wet food out bowls that are too shallow 🙄

@kurite Haha, yeah Gidget does the same. Her old bowl isn’t too too shallow but she did make messes with it a few times (not as often as she’s doing these days, if I’m remembering rightly, though). They’re just so fussy 😅
