Micro.photographers, do you shoot jpeg + raw? If so, why?
@pcora I tend to shoot RAW, RAW files (as I understand) are bigger files and have more information, so that is useful when editing. If you are shooting with built-in filters JPEG is just as good and also smaller files, if I understand correctly. Then again I am shooting on a camera that is at least 4yo so…
@pcora I do jpg + raw for a couple reasons. I like the idea of an automatic “backup copy” of the image in case the raw image is somehow corrupted or unreadable. Generally the out of camera jpg is great but the raw gives you a bit more latitude to “save/fix” an image that you may have not captured quite right such as over or under exposed. Also the raw gives you a bit more creative latitude if you want to really tweak image characteristics after the fact.
@Burk @Gaby Thanks for the insights! I like this idea of having the jpeg as a backup. Do you also import it to the library? One more question: what are you using to process the raw? Lightroom?
@pcora I keep them both in the Photos library as a stacked set. I use RAW Power for diting raw photos and have been experimenting with Luminar as well. Photo workflow
