@Gaby I had this exact experience today. I am not in a red state but very few people are masked out there and I know, statistically, only 60% are vaccinated. The number of cases here now is the same as when shutdowns started. 🤨
@Gaby I am just like you. I still wear my mask most places. There are still valid reasons to mask up indoors. Doctors’ offices require it. Vaccines aren’t 100% effective (though they are just short of miraculous). My kids are not vaccinated. I don’t think anyone else cares if you wear a mask, so don’t feel bad about it. 😀
@mpmilestogo i think I keep thinking that, yes, my wife and I are vaccinated but not my girls…
@Gaby I was just thinking about that too. Working in healthcare settings, I was an early adopter of wearing my mask out in public, and remember how strange I felt with others seeing me. That went away with more being cautious, and I’ve carried right on even after getting vaccinated (I got vaccinated in January), and now that more are vaccinated and mandates relaxing, others are quickly off with their masks, and I continue to wear mine like usual. I think it’s going to take more time, and more consistent evidence that it’s not spreading especially among vaccinated people, before I start to feel like I can let my guard down a bit. I guess time, as it is wont to do, will tell…
@Cheri @Gaby I think I’ll be wearing a mask in public at least parts of the year for a very long time.
@Gaby This article seems highly relevant: New COVID-19 Outbreaks Are Driving Some Places Back Under Lockdown and Behind Masks.
@Gaby I’m struggling with something similar. I have a bunch of travel coming up in the next few months that I’m really excited about, but some of it is taking me deep into parts of this country that look like where you live. I’m starting to get comfortable in my liberal, vaccinated place doing some of the activities I used to do. But I’m not feeling so great about going to Tennessee, for example, and being maskless indoors when vaccination rates are so low.
The travel is for work, so there’s also that aspect— am I insulting our customers?
I’m really not sure what I’m going to do.
