Internet things I don’t understand no matter how much I try.
Snapchat
TikTok (even thought I haven’t even downloaded it, I’m sure I will not understand it 😅)

@numericcitizen oh true! I understand just enough but wish I would understand more
@Gaby I’ve been in IT for more than 25 years, I did iOS apps (2009-2013), I know a bit about HTML, but CSS? Can’t figure that one out.
@Gaby it took me years to understand Reddit. Just think of your most niche interests, and only ever look at your “Home” with the list of best posts from those few communities and it’s pretty nice.
@Gaby Reddit can be great, if you (1) use an app, rather than the website, (2) stick to a few communities you are interested in, and (3) don’t get sucked into memes and other junk.
@Gaby I use Reddit to follow 3-4 very specific technical topics which don’t involve “social” aspects. I use an app and only see posts from those subredits. My usage basically treats those subredits as forums. I tried a couple of times to use Reddit the way they seem to expect me to and just got headaches 😉
I have a teenage daughter so I have used TikTok and Snapchat to review usage for her. TikTok is an enormous and unhealthy time sink IMO. OTOH our daughter only uses it to draw people to her Twitch channel and for that it does work amazingly well. She got 1M+ views on her first TikTok for that purpose! My wife also checked into TikTok and was fascinated by it for like two days and then killed it.
@Gaby @ronguest There are astonishingly helpful people producing amazingly informative videos on TikTok, but it takes time to teach your feed. And yes, I use TikTok sparingly because it’s easy to loose productive time or sleep. Some have used TikTok platform for learning video production. Folks with interesting content or stories will produce videos in sequence much like people on Twitter will chain Tweets. I have seen individuals leverage an audience to move onto other platforms like YouTube, Patreon, Instagram and Twitch where they are no longer timebound.
