🙋🏽♂️ Question for the morning. Do you have porridge/ oats made with milk or water ? 🥣
@Munish we usually have it with water although this is clearly the wrong way (but my wife likes it). It might be healthier and it certainly makes me relish the times when I have it with milk.
@Munish Steel-cut oats, cooked in a double boiler 1:4 with water, 30 minutes and then sit out for 8-12 hours before going in the fridge to be nuked for breakfast for the next few mornings. Yum! Hubby and I eat this 6 days a week and never get tired of it.
@Gaby @Gaby @Dino @JMaxB @agilelisa @ChrisJWilson @toddgrotenhuis wow good responses. Never even heard of steel cut oats before. Will have to give it a try with soaking them too. I used to have oats with milk but moved to water. It’s growing on me.
@Munish my weekday breakfast is overnight oats made with almond milk. Microwave in the morning and add fruit/nuts/etc.
@Munish I eat my oats with water right and also add peanut butter and a little bit of brown sugar. Some have suggested to add banana to it, haven’t tried it tho
@Munish Made with water, but with milk and brown sugar on top when served. Steel-cut is the best (as others have pointed out) but they require organization the night before or lots of time in the morning. Rolled oats are good, too, sometimes with cinnamon, chopped apples, and toasted walnuts added right at the end. 🥣
@davidm Cinnamon sounds amazing. Will need to try it out. I am not organised enough to soak the night before but may give it a go 👍🏽
@Munish I was well into adulthood before I’d even heard of making porridge with water… for me it’s been milk all the way! I like it with cinnamon, nutmeg, a bit of honey, and sprinkled with chia seeds and nuts. Sometimes some form of coconut, too 😋
@Munish Both! 50/50 water and milk, a bunch of spices (cinnamon, ginger, clove, cardamom, black pepper, anise), dash of salt, dried apples or raisins, and then a little maple syrup to finish.
@agilelisa we’ve got an instant pot. Take 5 minutes to cook steel cut oats. That’s less than the time it take me to heat water to brew my pour over coffee.
