There’s a planned change in how DNS responds to queries from non-complaint systems and it can potentially affect your domain availability. You can do a quick check at DNS Flag Day if you own any domains.

Apparently, Hover DNS systems I use aren’t fully ready. Interesting.

@amit Seems strange that the changes are going into effect on Feb 1 and we (the techy-ish, domain-owning part of the internet) are just now hearing about it? (Amazingly, my DNS seems ready.)

@smokey I think it was known that the changes are coming - but the effect weren’t disastrous enough for the tech media to pick it up. However, even I was surprised to hear no mention of these. So I thought may be I won’t be alone.

Apparently Hover are and should be ready for upcoming DNS changes. They responded with this. 👍🏽

Our parent company/DNS provider Tucows confirms that our DNS platform meets EDNS readiness. We assure you the issue of lack of DNS Cookies support (RFC 7873) is being addressed. Tucows will continue to enhance our DNS & all future changes will be announced.

@amit Glad to hear that! I was very mildly concerned!

@amit Thanks for posting about it here, for sure. (I suppose it’s something that’s more for the IT crowd to handle rather than for website owners themselves, which could also explain the lack of coverage; most of us don’t run our own DNS.)

@smokey Yeah, primary concerned folks are administrators. But domain owners do decide the DNS they use. So, they can either which one that aren't broken or force their existing one to support.

@vasta Yep, I was worried for a bit as even I have all my domains DNS with Hover. But then I also knew I can depend on their wonderful customer service. A quick query and an equally quick response.
