I’ve written two posts recently that I thought I’d tie together. The first was a post about the occasional resurfacing of the “minimalism” or “simple living” trend or meme especially as it exists as phenomenon in the US. The second was a response to a recent article in the Guardian about Trump’s authoritarianism. The common thread between the two is fairly obvious but still worth calling out in its own post and it is this: in 2023 America finds itself in a deepening crisis of identity as a failed democracy. @Denny while reading your post I started to realize why the fascist mantra focuses so much on "family, country, god" leaving out community entirely, be it community of families or community of nations. they don't want families to care about each other or countries to care about each other because that would entirely destroy the capitalist model of enriching self without regard for the rest of the community. they call it individualism or deglobalization but the intention seems to be the same: to enslave entire communities by removing the symbiotic bonds holding them together, splintering them by turning them into self obsessed individual units who don't care about each other. and now coming back a full circle, the substance of your post in countering fascism now makes perfect sense.
