I’m workshopping a new professional tagline because I want to emphasize that I’m a qualitative researcher. First draft: “I use stories to answer questions.” I’m open to feedback.

@KimberlyHirsh Forgive me if I’m being too bit picky, but what kind of stories? What kind of questions? Or would these be answered by a cursory glance at your CV/work history?

@splinter You ask for good details. These are questions I'm still answering myself. A longer bio could answer what kind of stories and questions I've worked with in the past, but I haven't decided where I'm going in the future yet.

@KimberlyHirsh That could work to your advantage, though! If your CV can provide easy evidence, it doesn’t have to be focused or definitive, just proof that you use stories to find answers. Proof that you know how to use this tool to achieve x ends, like a photographer that doesn’t yet have a particular theme but can prove their camera and framing skills. Then it’s a matter of finding opportunities to explore foci!

@KimberlyHirsh You're onto a winner if you can brand yourself as a storyteller supported by qualitative research. I'm teaching animators essential storytelling frameworks using SB7 as one focal point. clonmeldigital.micro.blog/2022/07/0...

@Clonmeldigital I searched for SB7, and found this, which I love:

  • You’re not Luke Skywalker. You’re Yoda.
  • You’re not Katniss. You’re Haymitch.
  • You’re not James Bond. You’re Q.

I'm not Buffy. I'm Giles.

@KimberlyHirsh Ha! I'm away from my notes at the moment and now wonder if SB7 is my personalised hashtag for Story Branding Seven Ways. I'll post something about what's in my Notion when I'm back from a 25 mile sunny cycling ride along our River Suir.

@KimberlyHirsh SB7 is short code for Story Branding in Seven Steps. I think I got the idea from Donald Miller or I heard Mitch Joel talking about it. My Roam Research also surfaced Seth Godin and Michael Hyatt in the same thought space.

In seven steps: a character ... has a problem ... and meets a guide ... who gives them a plan ... and calls them to action ... that helps them avoid failure ... and ends in a success.

This could be you framing your stories around all or part of SB7.

@Clonmeldigital Yeah, the link I found was to Donald Miller's site.
