I’m Confused ….

The BBC

”The UK Gov scientific advisers believe chances of dying from COVID are between 0.5% and 1%.

Graph from Worldometer - reveals that even if everybody that has been diagnosed recovers and nobody else gets it, the death rate is 14%.

What am I missing?

@JohnPhilpin There maybe asymptomatic cases which never get tested and so not reported. That could change the numbers.

@ChrisJWilson well yes - but if they aren’t reported and we haven't done the testing …. how do you make that conclusion?

@JohnPhilpin they might be applying statistic methods to get that figure. That is why it's "between 0.5% and 1%", because it's an estimation. But they should publish their full findings when making those assertions. Now, absolutely not to defend UK's government response to Covid which has been abysmal and criminal.

@JohnPhilpin Currently only the only people diagnosed are those who are symptomatic, especially those seriously ill. So the estimate doesn't contradict the numbers. But right now population mortality is so unclear (AND so variable in different areas) that anyone putting out a number is making a lot of estimates and assumptions.

@JohnPhilpin sorry, previous was supposed to be "almost the only" not "only the only".
