@nathanrhale have you seen the criticisms of Walker’s work? I dug into a few which basically seam to suggest that some people do need less sleep, that some of the scariest examples haven’t been replicated or shown to be causal, and fears that his insistence on 8 hours of sleep may be causing some people to have worse sleeplessness as they get stressed over not meeting their goal. (Although they all agree getting enough sleep is important)

@ChrisJWilson I have not, but I'd be interested in any links you can send my way! My understanding from the book wasn't that he was insisting on 8 hours of sleep per se. Rather, he advocated giving yourself an 8-hour sleep opportunity as the ideal.
