Is anyone on MB using the base model iPad 2021? Someone at church is interested in an iPad and looking at the base on. She wants to do some Apple pencil stuff and I have no idea how it compares.

@ChrisJWilson It is really good. I got one for my mother and she absolutely loves it. This review by the excellent Christopher Lawley was what convinced me.
@ChrisJWilson I have used a bunch (the original, an iPad Air 2 and a 10.5” iPad Pro). The last of which I sold earlier in the year. They were all solid machines, especially the Pro.
@ChrisJWilson I’m using the 8th gen base iPad (2020 model) and it works great. For your average user, and even above average users, it’s still a great choice. I use mine for web browsing, reading, streaming stuff, writing notes, etc with no issues.
@ChrisJWilson I’ve got the Apple Pencil and a Logitech K380 keyboard and it works great with the iPad. Unless she needs the power of the Air (doesn’t sound like it from your post), the base model should be more than enough.
@ChrisJWilson I would have loved to get the new Air or an iPad Pro last year but I knew the base iPad would do everything I needed it to do. I got my iPad (128GB), Apple Pencil, and a case (OtterBox Symmetry 360) all for not much more than the cost of Air
@ChrisJWilson I’ve got a company issued 11” iPad Pro (2018 Model). The display is larger and a little better quality but I think the base model is just as nice.
@jmreekes the main benefits seem to be the better screen and speakers. My main fear was if there was a significant lag when using the pencil.
@ChrisJWilson The speakers on the Pro are better. I’ve got an Apple Pencil for my personal and work iPads are don’t notice a difference in using them. I know the Gen 2 Pencil is faster but I’ve never noticed lag with the gen 1
