Really excited to have a scholarship for the LYT workshop. Really excited to upgrade my PKM approach and perhaps learn some obsidian tricks too.

@ChrisJWilson what is this? I’m considering signing up for The Sweet Setup’s upcoming Obsidian workshop
@joshuapsteele It's the Linking your thinking workshop from Nick Mylo. One of these cohort learning things over 6 weeks. Looks to be pretty tech agnositic from the onboarding (BUT stupidly expensive normally). I've taken another obsidian course I found which I wouldn't recommend (not the Sweet setup one btw). It was very tech focused (here's how to make a note) and didn't really have much meat in using it as a system. I'm hoping this will be different. I saw the sweet setup workshop but I have no idea how that will be.
@hjertnes ever or for obsidian workshops? I started reviewing some courses I’ve taken. They are very hot and miss. Some were real wastes of time for material you could get for free from the same people. Some were fantastic and have helped me a lot. Some weren’t that informative but were fun. I’ll try and find some more specifics. Live components, interaction and practical exercises all certainly help.
@ChrisJWilson I meant in general.
For me it doesn't work at all, do my best to avoid it at work. Didn't work for me at school either
I'm more of a give me some books and a project person
@ChrisJWilson That sounds like a good description of the online courses on any topic nowadays 😕
@joshuapsteele not yet. I’ve looked at both and I may well jump on publish soon. I know @hjertnes uses publish so he’s a good person to ask.
@hjertnes @chrisjwilson right now I’ve just got my Obsidian vault on iCloud. Will we need to use Sync to use the upcoming mobile app, I wonder?
@joshuapsteele I’m using the mobile app beta with iCloud for sync. I was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t need sync for that.
@joshuapsteele No, you don’t need it. But I don’t like iCloud sync, and Dropbox is weird on iOS. So I thought obsidian sync was the better option. And I want to support them 🤓
@hjertnes I’ve found some workshops helpful (the Sweet Setup had one about digital photography that I thought helped with regards to composition and light last year). The best strategy for them is probably to have a strategy - write down what you’re hoping to learn from it (your objectives may not be the same as the course objectives), and actively listen for the areas interesting to you.
@hjertnes @ChrisJWilson Obsidian Sync, I believe, is encrypted, so depending on what you keep in Obsidian, that could be a useful feature.
@dgreene196 makes sense. But my brain isn't very compatible with it and it's a very time consuming process with limited gains when I have to do more formal learning stuff like for example when I got a driver's license
The most useful part of workshops or classes is to block out time to work on something
What works for me is to read books and articles and see where it leads me.
@joshuapsteele Sorry to interrupt during then! I saw something that made me think it was over. You've got my email if you fancy arranging a show and compare session.
