Decided to try Obsidian again this week after reading about it over the weekend. Found a way to make it feel more like a Mac app which is helping and I’m starting to get my head around the differences.

@philbowell @gr36 From what I’ve seen, it reminds me of Drafts*; it can either be as simple as a scratchpad or as complex as an entire representation of how you’re thinking about, well, anything. It has the potential to be as deep and broad as an operating system.
* One thing it has better than Drafts is interoperability.
@gr36 Yeh, getting the mental model of it right has been the barrier but I think it’s clicking this time.
@simonwoods Yeh, I’m starting simple and growing things as I figure it out. I was using Roam, have been using Craft, both are good but both have things I got frustrated with. I felt I needed to give Obsidian a fair crack before I decide something.
@philbowell did you find the California theme?
@philbowell i found it on Friday or something. Have you seen this forum thread and video of joschua sharing how he uses it for bible study? He has some custom css that I’ve stolen.
@ChrisJWilson Yeh, I’ve had a brief look at it. Need to sit down and figure it out properly as I’d like the NIV version rather than the one they’ve used. I came across this blog post this morning which has a similar approach.
@philbowell Fantastic! Thanks for sharing. I've saved it to properly read later. I believe the script can be adjusted to pull in the NIV, but I suspect there may be publishing copyright issues if you were to do one of these digital gardens…but if it's personal use I don't think there's an issue (Not legal advice :D). Happy to share you my system sometime (although it's still very rough!)
@ChrisJWilson It would just be personal use, so I think it should fall into the fair usage copyright stuff. Always slightly grey territory.
Would be great to see your setup some time!
