Currently catching up on CJ Chilvers site. Really like his new simple design and was surprised that it’s a squarespace site not Ghost. I wonder whether his issues with transferring posts to MB had to do with using Squarespace?

@ChrisJWilson The email-centric corporate world is a hell of a thing to view from the outside. The weirdest part for me is forgetting that so many people are involved in it, especially here on Micro.blog.
@simonwoods curious as to the connection you saw with this post (although I am definitely in the email corporate world). Was it supposed to be a reply to the hey for work comment I left? (My interest in hey for work is “I want hey, but I want my own domain so I could switch to another service and not lose my email address!)
@ChrisJWilson Sorry I did the thing, leaping ahead to the conclusion of the blog post without writing the previous 300 words 😂
(TL;DR down below)
I looked at the site and was reminded of the general discourse around Hey, specifically Hey World. I repeatedly underestimate the degree to which even the framework of the enterprise world -- in this case: everybody is on email a lot -- crosses over into the world of consumer software.
It's a little odd for me because not only am I not in the corporate world, but I also have a full-time job without the requisite compensation and so gaining access to the software is difficult at best. Just one of those "odd person out" sort of things but in a very specific, practically insignificant way.
TL;DR The world is even weirder thanks to the effect the internet has on socioeconomic dynamics. Watching the different worlds of different people interact from close-up can be disorientating.
@simonwoods It's interesting how email continues to be a sort of universal internet id despite facebook/google's efforts. Althought, apparently gen Z aren't really email users. I can't remember the last time I recieved a personal email from a friend or family... Actually, my dad sent us a ticket...so that half counts?
@ChrisJWilson Between the open and basic aspect of email, and the reality that it was the shiny distraction at a time when there were no other distractions like it, I think it will be difficult to dislodge.
