I’m curious. Which would you prefer, a slack community or a discord community (or something else?) and Why?

@ChrisJWilson Discord. While they are very similar I think Discord have a better user experience, it’s difficult to say exactly why but I almost like Discord but I try to avoid Slack.

@ChrisJWilson a Basecamp or Discourse or orbitapp.io community

Reason: they can be more asynchronous and less interruptive.

@jemostrom @toddgrotenhuis I had never heard of orbitapp.io before. Looks very interesting.

@ChrisJWilson circle.so is another one like it but seems really expensive without a cheap way to try it out, last I checked

@ChrisJWilson Definitely a forum like Discourse. I can’t keep up with discords or slacks. Asynchronous with better threading.

@ChrisJWilson Depends what — specifically, who — you need it for. Whilst I appreciate the aforementioned preference for forum-type software, the unfortunate truth is that they are much more prohibitive to start-up; there are multiple initial costs and most people are now comfortable with the seemingly free model based on messenger platforms.

@ChrisJWilson thanks to everyone for their input. @cm and I are trying Basecamp for now.
I’m impressed so far.

@cm @chrisjwilson the check-in questions are super powerful. From community-building to meeting-avoiding to planning & reviewing, they can do a lot.

@cm @ChrisJWilson Basecamp is really good. I’ve only used the free version for managing a couple of home projects and loved it.

@jmreekes I’d love to see something on how you’re using it for home. Screenshots/blog post?

@ChrisJWilson Just posted some screenshots and info on how I use it for home projects. My use of it is very basic compared to the power of Basecamp, but it’s really handy to have everything related to a project in one place. For day to day home related tasks I use Todoist but for any big home projects, I’m gonna use Basecamp.
