I have always believed that one cannot force art or creativity…it just needs to happen…it needs to be allowed to happen.

@aa perhaps it’s easier to think about the reverse? You can prevent creativity through distraction, stress, tiredness, etc so you can “aid” creativity by removing the barriers, but you can’t guarantee it?

@cm @ChrisJWilson agree with both of you. A “healthy” routine will at least not hinder creativity...and deadlines too, they kind of force it but are still needed, otherwise creativity may creep into perfectionism.

@aa @cm There’s an educational theory called scaffolding. The idea is that you construct a frame around the material to be learned so they student can construct the meaning within. In practice this looks like providing materials on a topic, asking guiding questions, perhaps even assisting a student. I wonder if constraints are like these scaffolds? You can’t build anything within a scaffold, but they assist with building some things.
