Do you use Instapaper, pocket or something else?
Why do you use that service (espeically if you’ve tried others)? Go!

@maique good links looks good (sorry) and from the 1writer person. but it is Mac and iOS only and I need something to send stuff from my work pc. Thanks for the recommendation though.

@ChrisJWilson pocket. Premium was free with Scribd. I like that there is a Readwise integration (for Instapaper too, though). Only complaint: highlighting can be a little finicky on the iPad.

@frostedechoes I had heard something about reeder. Same non-pc issue and I really like highlighting tools.

@toddgrotenhuis I don’t think I get it free with scribd, I certainly have other free things though! Read wise integration is a good plus

@ChrisJWilson I use Reeder’s built in Read It Later, since it’s there. Otherwise, I would be using Instapaper because it’s always worked for me.

@skysandison Interesting… do you “mark as read” (move to a different folder? add as a task with a link?) I do like the universal nature of this, I suppose I worried that PDFs would take up too much space.

@sku_b I’ve been a haphazrd user of Instapaper for a long time. But it feels like a good time to review as I try and avoid feeds and instill some good practices again.

@ChrisJWilson Instapaper mostly, because of the highlighting and ability to save to Readwise. Pinboard for things that really need tagging, comment.

@skysandison Thanks, this is really helpful. I like the simplicity and use of reliable technology. I can certainly see how this would work for a reading list and then could be moved/saved elsewhere for long term…or just not! I’m certainly considering this.

@peroty Same. I feel like there’s space for innovation in this area but neither Pocket nor Instapaper seem to be taking it…at the same time, I’m not certain what it might look like. Faster loading apps could certainly help. I think VC mindset would say “more AI recommended articles” but I certainly don’t want that. Maybe just new ways to read articles like turning into slideshow to flick through or generating summaries/revealing what other users have highlighted. At the same time, at least they aren’t ruining a good thing!

@wearsmanyhats @chrisjwilson second vote for pinboard, for the same reasons, plus it more naturally stores ordinary bookmarks that represent reference material rather than “articles to read.” search is fast and reliable if you excerpt a choice paragraph or two I to Pinboard’s “notes” field.
