My latest social media approach:

  1. Micro.Blog = Home
  2. XPost to Twitter sometimes.
  3. No Twitter apps. Web only.

Twitter is great for chatting with other writers, but the signal/noise ratio remains poor. I deactivated FB & Insta a while back.

What’s your approach?

@cheri Similar, but I still crosspost most of my microblog posts to Twitter. I’m hoping my friends on Twitter will see the handwriting on the wall. I follow less than 100 and decreasing regularly.

@cheri Social network approach: WordPress blog = Home Micro.blog main social network XPost to Twitter XPost to Mastodon XPost to G+ XPost to Friendica via Twitter No Twitter or FB apps. Web Only. I used to XPost to FB but that quit working and I never tried to restore it. Only a few friends remain active on Twitter I mainly use it as a newsreader.

@bradenslen Cool. I dabbled in Mastadon for a while. Never found an instance that felt right, but it’s good software.

@cheri I signed up for Mastodon and MB when I was casting about for potential Twitter replacements. Then I decided to keep the account "just in case" and XPost to it. I have to say I've gotten some traffic and good interaction from Mastodon.

@cheri Pretty much this. I'm weaning myself off Instagram and Facebook.

@cygnoir I miss Instagram sometimes. But after a few days of withdrawal-twitchiness, being away from FB is a sweet relief. 😊

@cheri Ditched FB a while ago (HUGE gains in general life happiness, even at the unfortunate expense of letting a few valued connections go). Instagram is still a creative outlet for me for my own photography and keeping up with other similarly-mind creative types. Twitter remains my source for daily news, but I’d ditch it happily for other avenues if they came even remotely close to the curation I’ve laid out.

@cheri I got sucked back into FB because I met some new people at a social event yesterday and that's how they connect online. How do you redirect new in-person connections without inconveniencing them?

@cygnoir I say: “I’m not on Facebook, but I’d love to hang out/chat sometime. Can I text you my number?”

Then I follow up with a text/email saying hi within a week.

Post-FB, my bar for friendship is getting higher. And if I’m not worth any effort on their part... 🤷🏼‍♀️
