@terrygrier Kicking the smartphone habit! My son and his wife have flip phones, I have a light phone that only does calls and texting. Very nice. The voice-to-text feature is great, especially with the light phone's miniscule keyboard.
Now I wonder what I did with that old iPod...

@JMaxB The lightphone was on my list. I liked their dashboard idea a lot - I might switch to it at somepoint. But I wanted a bigger break from the iphone form factor.

@Cheri It is great. I never think about it unless it rings. I have lost some connection with texts - cause I am not responding fast enough. But I am very close to being "over" having conversasations over 3 days via text. Call me Lets talk for 20 min and get up to date and move on. Do I sound like an old white dude? I am 54 fyi ... I did have a 20 something say "oh yeah ...I heard older people like flip phones" hahaha ... I was like old? F you.

@terrygrier I prefer phone calls to texts as well, which reminds me I need to start a blog, because I find myself sharing things with friends over text.

@JMaxB That light phone looks intriguing, although the opacity about price puts me off it.

@terrygrier interesting. I do find the iPhone camera great and it is with me all the time. But I could have one of those AND a top Sony point and shoot for less than a new iPhone.

@jeremycherfas If you were to get a Sony point and shoot to carry which one? I am carring around an old ipod touch and it is lacking. Small and easy .. tho ..

@jeremycherfas I got mine for about $150 as I remember it, but their FAQ says it's $299. Did I get a special deal, am I misremembering, or has the price doubled in a few years? They do offer a $30/month phone plan though, which is nice.
If I were buying a phone today, I'd probably get a flip phone. The credit card size and coolness factor of the light phone aren't enough to hold me right now.

@JMaxB I will chime in with - the tactile feel of buttons and being able to do things without looking at the phone. Reminds me of the old days and I enjoy it more than I thought. I never considered it really until I started using the phone. Having my wife speed dialed into #2 - I can open and call her without even looking at the phone. Pretty cool me thinks.

@terrygrier probably something like the DSCW830 or maybe even the RX100.

@terrygrier This post, and the ensuing thread, has helped to convince me to at least attempt the experiment of removing the smartphone as my phone.

@SimonWoods Adding a comment here. One - Enjoy your posts here. 2. I have a 32g ipod touch that was giving to me. running ios12 - not to bad really nice device. But I find that using it vs the small nano - I reach for it .. and there is NOTHING ON IT. but I reach for it like I would for my phone. Having the ipod nano 7th gen - lightening charging 16g - it is nice device. Really nice. has Bluethooth ... airpods work - not as slick as ios and I can push music to speakers etc. I have learned to love having 1,000 songs in my pocket and long long battery life - like DAYS (without using BT)
