@dandycat I was a very happy Castro user, until it started behaving erratically a while back. Stuck with it for a while longer, and moved to the old Overcast. I was not aware they had stopped communicating, but noticed the lack of updates, as I still have it installed.

I totally agree with your post. Overcast is definitely not the one I’d rather use, but it works beautifully, and I’ve grown accustomed to it, again.

@maique @dandycat They have communicated, although only through their Twitter account for support ("castrosupport") and from a very quick look there doesn't seem to be any sort of announcement in a more reliable place. It's quite odd, since this behaviour definitely would not encourage me to trust them to make good decisions whilst taking my subscription.

@Burk Used it for a couple of months, maybe a little more. It was ok, I guess, but somehow it didn’t stick.

@dandycat I hung in there for a while with Castro. Its way of managing podcasts just worked for me. Then as you say there were bugs. I received a couple of responses and then it just appeared to go quiet. I currently use Airshow, a new offering from Feedbin. It just works for me.

@dandycat I've actually been really enjoying Castamatic. It isn't full of features but does what it does well.

@maique I was even able to set up Overcast such that it nearly works the same way as Castro. That helped make the transition much easier. It’s more fiddly, but it gets the job done well.

@Burk @maique I do also really like Pocket Casts. They’ve had a very consistent and reliable development team. If it weren’t for my history with using Overcast I’d 100% have gone with Pocket Casts.

@SimonWoods @maique The lack of communication from the Castro developers has been especially worrying because it’s so unprecedented from them. They’ve always been so open about their work, even after one of their cofounders left for other work. If this radio silence wasn’t so unusual I might not feel the way I do, but it feels like all signs are pointing to bad news for the app.

@crossingthethreshold Airshow looks very streamlined and nice to use. That it also comes from such a reliable company bodes well for its future. Thanks for mentioning it!

@SgtApple Castamatic looks like it could be great for a lot of people. It appears to me to resemble Overcast in a lot of ways, so moving to that one seems like it could be relatively simple. Thanks for mentioning a new app!

I loved Castro and kind of just 'accidentally' decided to try Overcast again ... haven't looked back since ... it was nothing to do with everything I am seeing in this thread - but have to say - the comments provide more reasons to not return.

@JohnPhilpin I completely agree with your sentiments about Overcast—for the most part, there’s no “perfect” podcast app out there. However, the syncing with Overcast can’t be beat. It sure is nice to not have to worry about how an app will function, right?
