@JohnPhilpin Trump and the rest of his party seem to be pretty intent on running a 1932-style* campaign with the added bonus of doing so in the middle of a pandemic. Biden’s plan of running as “Not Trump” has a decent shot of working.

You know the old adage, “When your opponent is telling his supporters to inject themselves with bleach, let them keep rambling on.”

* The “Let’s Make this Depression Great Again” plan of letting states go bankrupt** seems particularly inspired.

** Not actually legally possible for an added zest of uncertainty.

@JohnPhilpin Yep, it’s all about imposing “conservative” ideology on the entire nation. His problem is that it would take a new federal law to create the possibility of state bankruptcy and there’s no chance that Pelosi lets that bill even get to the House floor*. So if the states do go over a fiscal cliff, it’ll be default and chaos. McConnell himself is up for re-election; it really does seem he’s letting ideology trump self interest.

* Unless the Dems want to force Republican Reps to choose between their party in Washington and their Governors at home. It’s not like Republican Governors want to go through bankruptcy either.
