@SusanB Did the ban date from the English Revolution? Cromwell & co tried to ban Christmas in the 1650s. (The Puritans hated Christmas too and it was illegal to celebrate in MA until the ~1680s. Of course, Christmas used to be more like Halloween or Mardi Gras—an excuse to get drunk and annoy the “better sort”). //@smokey
