Some months ago i walked away from the Castro podcast app and reluctantly switched to Overcast. It gives me no pleasure to learn that Castro seems to have finally tipped over the ‘event horizon’ and is about to disappear.

I would love to find another podcast app with that same elegance in design.

@BestofTimes Pocket Casts? Its queuing and inbox system is similar to Castro.

@MitchW Your suggestion prompted me to try Pocket Cast again. I used to use it and still have an account and some very old podcasts in there!

I couldn’t get my head round the UI so it’s not for me at this time.

It’s Led me to Apple Podcasts in a search for simplicity. It will be interesting to see if I make it through 24 hours. It’s interesting that the sound quality is more natural and less processed than Overcast.

@BestofTimes I have not tried Apple Podcasts in a long time, if ever. I use Overcast because of its superior sound quality when playing at high speeds. I’ll be curious what you think of Apple Podcasts over time, and may give it another try.

@MitchW Apple Podcasts did not survive its brief trial. I never felt I could control the playback sequence and I think it’s maybe an app for users who wish to just keep listening to a limited quantity of podcasts.

@MitchW I’m trying the Feedbin ‘Airshow’ podcast app for a bit. Very basic but a nice queue-based interface.

@BestofTimes I have to admit I was skeptical when Feedbin introduced that app. Another podcast app? (I said to myself) Why? I’ll be curious what you think.

@MitchW I need to give it more time so I’m running it in parallel with Overcast for now. I loved Castro and would never have quit were it not obvious it was DNA. Overcast works but it utilitarian at best.

@BestofTimes Overcast does what I need it to do. I know some people say its interface is ugly, but I don’t have a problem.

I only spend a few minutes a day looking at or interacting with the app on the screen, and 90-120 minutes listening to podcasts. Audio quality is a thousand times more important to me than user interface.
