The world is not geared towards those with additional needs and frustrates those trying to communicate on their behalf. That said, when you speak to someone who ‘gets it’ and tries to help, it genuinely means the world. I rarely post about anything ‘real life’ and will resume geekiness shortly.

@BenSouthwood I've spoken on and off about my life as a carer — I'm mostly a private person and have found that preference works well within my role — and couldn't agree more, Ben. There are some truly magical people in the world, doing everything they can to redress our systemic imbalance.

@SimonWoods I’ll be honest, it wasn’t quite the help I actually, ideally, wanted, but fair play she made sure everything we needed doing was done while we were there. It can be a tough and frustrating experience can’t it?

@BenSouthwood Oh yeah. Before I thought I understood frustration and how to be patience but the past ten years have been a whole other level. What you said describes it perfectly; I've learned to be much better at accepting things as they are, to be pragmatic and avoid perfectionism where possible.

@SimonWoods I’m not naturally an assertive person, but I’ve had to learn. Anyway, takeaway pizza tonight and we had an incredibly nice brunch as a treat. :-)
