I use AI coding assistants extensively, but I don’t vibe code

I do too, but I’m not sure to understand the difference.

@numericcitizen vibe coding is telling the AI what to do moment to moment. “I’d like to have a website that will be my new landing page.” AI goes off and does its thing. “Good, but I like my test to be blue and the headers to be images.” AI goes off to do its thing. “Not that blue. More teal blue.” AI goes off…you get the idea.
Using AI as a coding assistant is different, because you plan your prompts strategically or put lots of work into a spec document that you pass on to the AI.
One is “vibing”. The other is programming with AI.

@AlexKucera thanks! So I’m more into programming with AI. I’m currently working on my next web app: a bookmark manager so I can get rid of AnyBox, my current bookmark manager.

@AlexKucera yup … that’s me … and you can get a long way .. for yourself … but not for anything that’s going to be supportable as in say a product …for that you need the rigour that a good developer brings you the party …the stuff that Tug was writing about.

@numericcitizen yeah. I noticed as well. I switched around DNS providers and haven’t finished the transition completely just yet. 😕

@numericcitizen also as it turns out I just don’t use bookmarking. I like what I built and it is the ideal bookmarking tool for my needs. But I guess I am just not a „bookmarking“ guy.
