I’ve been trying really hard to consider whether or not something is worth saying at all before posting. This is not worth saying, but I can’t stop thinking it: the new version of Reeder could not be less “for me”. I don’t get it at all, so I’m going to stay being the old man yelling at cloud now.

@jsonbecker I feel the same way. I just want my RSS feeds.

@jsonbecker @canion I'm with both of you here. I quite enjoying keeping socials separate from RSS feeds on my interests and articles!

@canion @jsonbecker The Reeder Classic still exists and will be supported. It’s still my go-to for longform.

@pratik I’m not excited about one of my most important apps not being the one the developer is excited about. Existing and being supported doesn’t feel like enough. That said, I’ve got options.

This is much more about me finding the whole thesis of the new app utterly baffling and unlike any experience I’d ever want. I couldn’t get it less, though I hope it finds an audience.

@jsonbecker I’m not thrilled about my favorite version playing second-fiddle either, but it hasn’t gotten much attention in years anyway…so not big change I guess? What would you like to see come to Reeder Classic?

@jsonbecker I am going to give it a try, but like you I don’t get it. But I am not the target demographic I guess. I don’t use Mastodon, Facebook, Threads or any of those things. I use Micro.blog to read and write a bit and I read my news each morning in my RSS reader. I am boring that way and don’t need to be doomscrolling all day to catch up on whatever fart is hip right now.

@AlexKucera that didn’t take long. 20 minutes later and the app is already gone from my system. Wasted €1 to try it out. And boy oh boy was it not for me.

@jarrod To be honest. That’s my biggest scare with the new app. The support and developer response for reeder has been historically dire for years.

When the iPad Pro came out reeder didn’t work with the new screen ratio and it took weeks for that to be fixed.

I personally have raised support tickets numerous times and have never, ever received a response.

I kinda tolerated it as it was a one off purchase or drifted to other RSS readers for a while and came back.

Now it’s subscription based I expect MUCH better support.

@jsonbecker I’ve setup my iPad for automatic updates so I missed the announcement. Was there an announcement? In any case, I’ve installed “new Reeder”. I’ll need a few days before I know what this is.

@DaveyCraney How does the phrase go? With ongoing payment comes greater responsibility? 😉 I hope it materializes. He’s published a development roadmap this time, which I suppose is something.

@khurtwilliams it’s a separate app. Current version is now Reeder Classic and will keep being supported.

@jsonbecker True. The developer may ignore or be slow to roll out updates. Recently, another RSS reader app, Unread, released a big update, right? But I understand your hesitation regarding the new app. It conflicts with the way you consume blogs or rather microblogs.

@jsonbecker It's kind of interesting—I've been playing around with the test versions of Icon Factory's Tapestry, and in some ways really like it as a way to integrate feeds from multiple sources. But I'm also learning what kind of feeds I *wouldn't* want to mix, as well as, crucially, what feeds I *do* wish I could mix in that these apps can't handle—namely, short email newsletters that Feedbin can turn into RSS.

@jsonbecker I’m not sure I like this change. I’ll stick with Classic.
