@redpandaclub any news on a Short Circuit update? OpenAI has lots of nice features that I am missing out on. I‘d love it if you could update the app with all the new goodies like web browsing, vision, image creation, etc.
@alex Hey Alexander, to be direct about it I consider Short Circuit to be a supported product, but one that isn't getting active investment of time or money. There isn't much of a business model unfortunately, especially as OpenAI takes a lot of features that third parties produce and integrates them directly into ChatGPT, leaving little room to innovate. 1/2
@alex I think that's ultimately good for general consumers who want to use the ChatGPT product, but not as good for developers like me who would like to innovate in places where consumers have needs. Since Short Circuit uses the bring your own token model a feature like vision or image creation would make Short Circuit pretty expensive to use, to the point where with more than minimal usage it'd be cheaper for me to suggest signing up for ChatGPT+, and that's not much of a business to run. 2/2
@redpandaclub thanks for getting back to me, even though it‘s not quite what I hoped to hear. I get where you are coming from though. But still, it is a hard pill to swallow after spending a lifetime license on your product.
@alex I understand that it's not ideal, but I do promise to continue supporting the product as is to ensure you get value from your lifetime license. For example I silently updated the models to make the cost for lifetime users cheaper, and will continue to improve the core set of functionality that Short Circuit supports to ensure everything works as expected and takes advantage of the reasonable changes OpenAI makes.
