So... I just got a text from my sister telling me my parents (who are cleaning out old stuff from their house) found buried in the back of a closet, a *suitcase* of my old Dungeons & Dragons stuff (this would be from the 80s). If I were to retrieve it, what should I do with it?
@mmasnick tbh, anything homebrew you should try to adapt but if it's not 3.5e or 5e, unless it's in pristine condition, you can probably toss it after posting some pics
@mmasnick I know everyone is going to say that you should play, but honestly that could be like a college fund or vacation home payment right there.

@mmasnick Do an unboxing video. Er, unsuitcasing video. Harken back to whatever memories you have of the items you find. And then pack it up again and store it in your own closet until you decide what to do.
@mmasnick If you have children, give them the books, and run a game with them. I'm sure my childhood AD&D books (plus the red box with plastic dice) would have been worth a few bucks somewhere. But I gave them to my kids when they were far too young to treat them right, and I think it's the best influence I ever had on them. They're in college today, running their own campaigns.
@mmasnick Find a few friends, a wood paneled basement with green shag carpet, some Cheetos, and roll initiative.
@mmasnick Every time I'm at my parents' house, I hope that I come across some box in the garage or attic that contains my D&D stuff from the 80s. I don't think I'd do much with it, but would love to see what kind of notes I had made or perhaps some maps I had drawn and kept. I'd love to see all that stuff, if only for nostalgia's sake.
@mmasnick I went through mine and put everything in a plastic sleeve to prevent damage… turns our some of it is collectors’ items now, who knew (R3 Egg of the Phoenix, mint, omg)
@mmasnick I bet there would be quite a few DnD lore podcasts (Dungeoncast or The DnD Lorecast) that would love to have them.
@mmasnick save it. Or if you need money sell it (that stuff has gotten really valuable)
But because it has gotten valuable I’d suggest you save it unless you need the funds. (If you want to sell it the best place I know is a FB group - which has a really good community and active group of collectors and sellers (honestly one reason I’m still on fb)

@mmasnick contest to give away to your followers? Sell them to rabid D&D collectors? Sell them to companies who sell them to rabid D&D fans? Hold onto them for dear life, as Hasbro sinks the latest edition with mismanaged IP measures?

@mmasnick I am planning on attending a girls weekend in a couple ofweeks and there are a groups of us middle-aged women who will be learning to play D&D for the first time!
