I also think about web browser names (professional hazard)…Mosaic, Navigator, Internet Explorer, Opera, iCab, Camino, Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Edge. The early ones mostly had that conotation of exploring, finding new and exciting things, travelling, while the two latest are so staid and utilitarian. Their names are statements in other ways, but it’s clear that the idea of the web as something living, interesting, to be explored has passed, in the minds of those teams/companies. (Hat tip to @bradenslen and @vega for their discussions about this transition in mindset.)

I have really enjoyed all the name-and-language posts and discussions here on Micro.blog—so many of them facilitated by your fine posts on the subject, Sameer—it’s one of the signs that the people of Micro.blog are “my people” :-)
