I’ve been in the higher education sector for a while. Clocked up 30yrs earlier this year.

There was a lovely event yesterday where annual awards were announced and long serving staff recognised.

We have a social media team so of course an email arrived with an image to use.

A photo of a university on a bend of the Brisbane river, the CBD in the background. The photo has “I’m celebrating 30 years at QUT!” across the top. In the bottom right is the QUT logo and “university for the real world”.A white certificate bordered in blue. At the top is the word QUT inside a blue box with “Recognition Program 2022” underneath. In the middle is “Awarded to Mr Peter (surname is blocked out) for 30 years of service”. Bottom left has the name and signature of the Vice-Chancellor. Bottom right is 9 December 2022.

@meandering Congratulations to you! 👏🏻

I only just rolled over my 7th year but there were an encouraging number of colleagues with similarly high numbers this year. It feels good to be involved in a career that isn’t fly-by-night.

@gregmoore thank you! I’m fortunate that my institution is big enough that I’ve been able to move through a few different positions but also small enough that we retain a nice community vibe. Makes a world of difference.

@meandering That really does make a big difference. Most of my family are university people and, even with all of their issues, they are still good places to work.
