@dansup Didn’t other people complain you had too many features? Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

@gideonstar I care because I want *everyone* to love pixelfed, and I want to be able to squash any negative feedback by implementing suggestions when appropriate.

Every voice matters, even the ones that disagree with me, and it's my job as the project lead to put aside my own biases and ego and approach the feedback from a neutral and understanding perspective.

While I wrote most of the code, a lot of it was influenced by people like you!

@dansup @gideonstar Dan I want to be careful about how I say this because it's with love and I care about pixelfed a lot and want to see it thrive, and I can see you're getting defensive as some (hopefully well intentioned) comments can be critical.

the amount of work you're doing is incredible, not just on pixelfed, and you have many great ideas. the vision is clearly there. but you're also going in ten directions at once which must be exhausting.

@dansup You are on fire, but I have a question/comment: last year, you were working on a new publishing workflow for the Pixelfed instance, but where is it going? A new UI, too, is still not available. And Sup, is it shipping? I have the same question for the official Pixelfed app, which is still unavailable in the App Store. I praise your work and dedication, but are you spreading yourself a bit too thin?

@dansup @gideonstar I’m not sure if it’s the overwhelming pool of ideas, or trying to react to every comment and bit of feedback you get, or simply distractions or life gets in the way or whatever.

But as someone who just wants to tell their friends to go to an app store and download pixelfed, it is frustrating to see you divert into other projects when the work you’ve done - the beta app that already exists - feels *so close* to being a great v1 release.

@dansup @gideonstar Like sure it’s maybe not the perfectly polished, fully-featured app you have in mind but it’s also not clear what’s left or why you seem to change direction, and I think that’s where a lot of this reaction you’re getting is coming from.

@repeattofade
As an older software developer watching @dansup since his first announcement to do pixelfed, I agree here.

Dan, please remember to start delegating the stress on the first signs of you growing tired. Not on the last.

@dansup so yeah, you've clearly built a thing that a lot of people care about, so even those getting frustrated are invested and want to see you succeed here!

I'm happy to keep supporting the patreon and using and talking about pixelfed, because I do want to see it succeed. loops and sup seem like great ideas too.

I don't think anyone will mind if you shout out reasons why things slow down, or you change direction, or especially if you just need to ask for some help or some time.

@repeattofade @dansup @gideonstar

I don't want to pile on, but there is another thing that I'd like to add: experimenting with new ideas is good and may even help you solve some other issue in pixelfed. But whenever you start another project, you end up giving the impression that you don't want to follow through to solve the tiny little things that are stopping Pixelfed from ever reaching the mainstream.

Examples that come to mind: an official docker image, robust support for LDAP and SSO.

@raphael @repeattofade @gideonstar we shipped an official docker image, LDAP and sign on with Mastodon tho?

@dansup @repeattofade @gideonstar

The docker image request was open for almost a year until someone decided to work on it. LDAP auth is claimed to be supported, but I never got it to work properly (can not define filter query to find user membership), SSO might be working now but I haven't checked.

Again, no one has the right to demand you to work on these things. But as someone who really wants to make Fediverse software available to the masses, Pixelfed falls short in frustrating ways.
