There are authors who publish solely on Amazon because they want to be part of Kindle Unlimited. And then they need to do stuff like a Patreon, so that they can give books to readers outside of the Amazon-verse 🤦‍♂️

Is it really worth it?

@nielsk a friend is an author. Kindle is the biggest marketplace by far so if you want to find any random readers it is the place to be unfortunately. He also published it on some other stores and never has had a single person buy it on those

@nielsk I’m not a fan of Kindle Unlimited. My book is published on Amazon as a way to distribute both ebook and paperback in multiple countries with wide reach. I intend to publish beyond Amazon though. BookVault looks interesting. Is it worth it? To avoid Amazon lock-in, yes.

@writingslowly Hello! I read the sample of your book and I’d really like to buy it, but unfortunately the price in Brazil makes it quite expensive. If there’s any alternative way to purchase it outside of Amazon, I’d be happy to do so.
