Since #MicroBlog doesn't support hashtags, I decided to roll my own. If all went well, the hashtags in this post should link back to my site. #Kirby really is great!

No idea if it worked on #Mastodon, or if they overwrite the links. Can someone confirm please?

@kev here (Mastodon client, Pachli): hashtags working just as every Mastodon hashtag (so yeah, hashtags working!). What do you mean by linking back to your site?

@tullney so they should link to kevquirk.com/hashtags/…, not fosstodon.org/tags/Micr…

@kev In Tusky the tags point to the mastodon fediverse.

@kev In the Mastodon webUI they just go to the standard hashtag link. Not pointing back to your site.

@kev In the official Mastodon app on iOS, the tags open your website.

@kev So that is what I get in those two clients when looking for where the hashtag links to. But the result is the same: Hashtag search in Mastodon

@tripplehelix nope. It’s a plugin I created that runs in Kirby so when it detects #something it makes that into a link that goes to the tag name. Means I don’t have to add links manually - I’m too lazy for that.

Looks like different places on the fedi treat these hashtag links differently. Some honour the link, others overwrite it. Either way it’s fine. 🤷🏼‍♂️

@kev the hashtags link to mastodon hashtags on mastodon.scot, though the card does link to the first tag (ie microblog)

@kevq it largely depends on whether or not it’s respecting the HTML content of a post or not. Mastodon API doesn’t allow HTML, but Mastodon itself and most clients will do fine with HTML from ActivityPub.

@kev @tullney Nope, not working like that. And it would actually be a surprise to me and other people on the Fediverse.

@kev Links to your website. I love this. How do you make it work?

@amit I wrote a plugin for @getkirby that looks for #something in my notes then turns them into a link. Then I just have a template that loops through them.

Basically I built my own little tagging system for Kirby. I thought about using the existing one, but I already use that for my blog posts and I didn’t want to mess with that.
