@chrisaldrich This is a blast from the past. These photos could be the typewriter my grandparents gave me, new in the early 1970's just before I entered high school. It's the typewriter that saw me through university.

At $18 you got a great buy and I'm jealous. As you point out with the features, this manual typewriter had just about everything you could cram into a portable and it all works! And IMHO it has an attractive design to it to boot.

I'm happy you found such a great bargain.

@bradenslen Its slightly bigger (elite) older brother in green showed up by FedEx today: The Smith-Corona Classic 12 (1965). It'll have to wait a few days for better photos, evaluation, and cleaning, but until then:

@chrisaldrich it’s hard to describe how much I love this picture! No idea what the ‘power space’ key does, but it must do something awesome!

@writingslowly Personally, I double checked twice before I bought it via online auction to make sure it was a manual typewriter and not an electric because of it. When they say power though, they mean mechanical power through and through. I'll try to get a video of what it does (and maybe how, once I've got it opened for cleaning.)

@chrisaldrich can’t wait to see it in action! After all, none of my fancy computers have ever had ‘power space’!

@chrisaldrich It's just so beautiful. I don't need one, I positively know that, after fiddling with it for the novelty of the first days, I would not use a typewriter on the long run. But they're so beautiful... My wife is already looking at me funny, she knows my face when I look fascinated by something on the internet. She knows it will costs us money and she will have to bear with a new gadget lying around 😂.

@eumrz Blank typewritten index card in blue ink that reads:
I resemble that remark in so many ways. I do actually use mine almost every day either for journaling or as part of my physical index card-based zettelkasten practice. Occasionally I'll also "typecast" to my blog or social media. There is something so nice about the tactile feel of composing on a typewriter. They're also lovely decorations around the house that remind me should write more. Contending with the "wife issue" isn't always easy, but she has taken to buying a new pair of shoes she loves for each new machine I buy. (Fortunately my habit is cheaper than hers, but they both bring us continuing joy.)

@chrisaldrich Another great find! I like the powder coat finish, the 1950's styling and the green keys.

I just had a thought about typecasting with a manual typewriter, one can blog even when the power goes out. Just crank out those cards and post them later when the power comes back on. Candles not included.

@chrisaldrich That is sleek and beautiful. I'm not that familiar with Remington's but from looking at this they had some good designers. Nice buy.
