Finally catching up on The Dresden Files thanks to my new Kobo e-reader. Man, I’ve missed Harry Dresden. Not the best in the series so far, but “Peace Talks” feels like home. Jim Butcher is such a gifted guy.

@cleverdevil Is the first one as good as the series gets? I read that first book years ago and was not motivated to pick up another. People seem to enjoy the series so much that I fear I might be missing something good.

In other words: If I didn't like the first Dresden book (but didn't read it), do you think I should try again? Is this book series like a TV series that takes a few episodes to find its legs?

@MitchW the first book is hilariously bad as benchmarked against the rest of the series. It steadily improves and finds its footing around book four, and then absolutely hits its stride from book 7, peaking at book 12. It’s worth powering through the first few books.
