Poll, of sorts: How do you balance creation vs consumption? I often wrestle with myself on how much I read or watch compared to how much I write or make or create. My desired ratio is 90/10. Unfortunately it is more like 10/90.

@cdevroe My ideal is 70/30, though I'm more like 30/70 if I am honest with myself.

Part of the issue is the energy level needed for creation, which is not always there.

I try to ensure I have a good mix of consuming content that will, in time, fuel my creative efforts.

@cdevroe I can't think of creating as a business-like ratio. To me, creating is like eating or exercise; an essential part of being fully alive. It ebbs and flows with the other things going on in my life. If I am not creating, that part of me is dying. In the past, I have been fortunate enough to have jobs that paid me to create but I must still create without them.

@zorn I've always viewed you as a high output person... so at least the outsider's view is that your always producing great stuff.

@gregmoore That is how I feel. So when I get in a rut of only taking in, I don't feel as fulfilled as I do when I'm creating. Which is why I have the wrestling!

@zorn Creativity definitely takes energy and some willpower.

@cdevroe Wrestling is a very good word for it. I recently finished a 40+ hour drawing for a group of friends and my wife was like, "Can we watch something on tv together again?" once I was done. I just wanted to start another project.😂

@cdevroe I can’t possibly think in those terms. I consumed two movies this weekend. I’ve never created a single one. I do keep a rough count of hours spent making things, and if I average 3-4 a day over the course of a week, I’m ok.
