@matpacker Fun fact I heard, but not sure if it’s true; they hibernate for a prime number of years, to avoid predators that work on a different prime number of years. They rarely overlap at population peaks.

@yorrike One summer (1987) I got to experience the 17-year cicadas while I was in grad school in New Jersey. They were loud! It was a pretty surreal summer. Doing the math, it looks like they are due for a return gig in 2 years.
