@boris it's colourfulness, though overly complex, is quite visually appealing. Agreed the email format is more familiar, but might not be confusing with email?

@w4rner so, what is a pattern we can easily explain and that encourages good patterns. The /username to me promotes centralized server patterns.

My friend Blaine advocates that “Jesus of Nazareth” is the common baked in pattern that everyone understands.

@boris You've won me over. I think the other thing is there is precedence/more emphasis on the individual before the server. That feels philosophically right, as for me the main thing about the fediverse is rebuilding trust in individual's communicating.
