@vladcampos Looks like the emails might not be going through. Can you see the DM if you click on Mentions and look for the "direct messages" link in the corner?

@manton yes, I can see them there, but I still didn't get the emails. Since we are on this topic, is there a way to DM someone I never got a DM from?

@manton Also, I have a suggestion. Maybe add a DMs menu under Mentions on the sidebar. To be honest, I didn't know it was possible to check them going to the Mentions page. It was probably selective blindness because I read somewhere on Micro.blog materials that DMs would arrive via email. Nevertheless, it is something that may happen to other users. It’s pretty difficult to see if one is not looking for it.

@vladcampos There's no way to initiate a new DM. I'm expecting ActivityPub DMs to be completely overhauled fairly soon, because Mastodon's approach is not encrypted, so I just wanted to have some basic functionality until that happens. Will expand it when there's a better standard across the fediverse. (Emails fixed now, by the way.)

@manton Thank you for the email fix. As for the DM topic, the current Mastodon system without encryption is definitely not the best option for secure conversations. However, since it's hidden from the public, it's good enough for starting a conversation and exchanging email addresses or any other means of communication. Maybe an option for a future Micro.blog DM page would be a disclaimer explaining that the exchanged messages there are only hidden from the public view.

@vladcampos Yeah, my resistance is mostly because I think the whole system of DMs on Mastodon right now is a dead-end. Whatever we do might need to be thrown out. I'll consider it, though, as we keep an eye on the new standard in development hopefully soon.
