So, this is what I had in mind for Gluon… and that’s the exact reason I built Sublime Ads! Of course these can be turned off in settings if you don’t like it — just want to show it off 😋

@vincent How does this work? Do you display them when you find them mentioned in the discover feed. Or are you just randomly showing one each time you open the discover tab?

@V_ so in this case I uploaded different podcasts into Sublime Ads and put them into a category named “Discovery timeline”, then I load a random one based on that category when the app starts (grabs what it needs from the API). It’ll be there for at least 5 mins and then goes ahead and checks again for a random one depending on what you do in the app.

@vincent Just updated my TestFlight with this. The discovery feed seems a bit wonky. You can move the feed around, rather than it being locked in the view. Hard to explain, can send a gif if needed.

@vincent I have a confession: I haven’t used Gluon in a long time. The reason is that I often find the need for copying text from a post to search 🔦 the net for something, and maybe other things I cannot remember right now, so I have resorted to the official app for now. It might be on your “nice to have” list already, but I thought I’d mention it.

@odd that’s quite ok! I totally understand. I really need to look at that for you, because I said I will many times. I have a few requests for that on the Android side too.

@vincent I just fired up Gluon on an S8, with Pie, and there I could actually mark and copy text, (built-in?)

@RossA I have a special JSON feed. I update that and then the app just checks if it’s current and which day it is on the device. Then it goes ahead and updates and shows what it needs to.

@RossA hmm, it should be working in the store version. Have added this some time ago. Two options… delete the app and start again (terrible idea but worth a try), get the “fast track” TestFlight here and I’ll see to it to add an option to reset your options in the next few days.

@vincent Awesome. Thank you. Are you planning to continue work on this "flavor" of Gluon now or the new one you've talked about?

@mcg gonna keep going with this flavour for now… not really what I wanted, but it is what it is. The lack of Apple documentation mixed with time constraints is just making it all too slow. I will however still keep going with the other version… it’s just much slower than I wanted. I guess this keeps me happier as I can make progress and not keep things stale for too long.

@vincent Ah ok. Any chance you will be able to allow installation of current Gluon on M1 machines?

@mcg not yet. I can’t test this (don’t have an M1 machine), plus I’m not confident to do it until I see it in action.

@vincent I’ve not deleted the app for a long while (even just copying across when I got my iPhone 11) and just updated so perhaps somewhere in the past a settings stuck! Either way it’s working now and all is good. Thanks!

@vincent FWIW I managed to get the App Store version running on my M1 before Apple shut down that path and it seemed to work pretty well.

@vincent I have been intrigued by Sublime Ads, but my mental bandwidth for installing new tech is currently limited to setting up a replacement iPad and signing into all the Slacks and email accounts again. 😒

@jpayne there is an API now for timeline syncing 😍 Thanks to Manton (@manton) for that. Unfortunately for me, I need to rework the whole feed fetch logic… which is fine, will just take some time. Will probably make a start next week.
