With the news that Tumblr is planning ActivityPub support, a quick reminder that you can already follow any Tumblr user from Micro.blog. Just enter someone.tumblr.com in Micro.blog’s Discover search! I use this for following a few artists and writers.

@manton I have had trouble following someone's RSS feed from Micro.blog. It has not worked for a couple of ones I have tried i.e., their posts don't show up on the timeline.

@pratik Email me the URLs when you have time. Doesn't work with all sites, but should work with anyone who has a personal blog.

@manton We were discussing this last week. I found that some people could not be followed and there were a couple of theories about that. I haven't tried them since to see if things had changed.

@manton reallyndacarter.tumblr.com and vancityreynolds.tumblr.com were two examples

@manton Looks like Tumblr host some (new?) blogs from subdirectories instead of subdomain. Try visiting vancityreynolds.tumblr.com, and you will notice a redirect to www.tumblr.com/vancityreynolds instead. With no RSS present. 😢

@manton A question because I might be missing something, there is a lot of posts from people about using micro.blog for following various feeds. My biggest problem is that it's really hard to use micro.blog for following something (even micro.blog users) since you get the latest 40(?) posts and then I have to scroll back in the timeline. This could mean that I scroll backwards, click on a link to read something, close the web viewer, and micro.blog decides to update the timeline which means that I have to start over.

In fact, I use a feed reader to read the micro.blog timeline.

So I assume that I'm missing something, but what?

@jmuscara Well that's interesting... Looks like Tumblr changes something, but only for certain accounts... I can work around this.

@sod Yep. Luckily vancityreynolds.tumblr.com/rss does appear to exist, but there's no reference anywhere to it that I've noticed. Disappointing.

@jemostrom Not really missing anything. We plan to improve how the timeline position is reset.

@manton Great! Though in the macOS app, I don't see the Follow links. I found them on the web version

@manton So I’ve seen many people getting confused by this Micro.blog feature of essentially being able to follow any single person website, or straight up not knowing about it. I think that search should work with the https:// prefix too because most people will just copy-paste the URLs of these external sites, if at all, and not type the domains or remove the prefix. Right now Micro.blog only supports searching with the https:// prefix for Mastodon users, which is nice but also inconsistent.

@uncertainquark Good point, I'll adjust that.
