I have a French press and don’t love it. Aeropress, pourover, or something else? I’m in the market for a good, nonelectric coffeemaker, with the emphasis on “good coffee.” I used to own a pourover, but I gave it away because it brewed a weak cup. I think I poured too fast. Next?

@strengthentheverbs Sadly, I can't drink coffee as much as I used to. But I was always a fan of Aeropress and cold brew concentrate to make a good hot cup. The cold brew option -- I used the Toddy system -- always resulted in a strong and smooth cup for me; it seems to reduce the acidity a bit. (The acidity issue is a problem for me these days, though, even with cold brew.)

@strengthentheverbs Aeropress! It's affordable, and if you look online you'll find countless hacks for using it for cold-brew, or just for trying to optimize the steeping.
Usually I hand-grind a batch of coffee in the evening for the next morning's big pot of Mr Coffee, which is an odd mix of Coffee Geek and Who Cares. But for family use it works. When I'm making coffee just for me, I use Aeropress, and recommend it.

@strengthentheverbs I'm currently using the Melitta pourover thing with filters. Cheap, simple, no moving parts and it makes a good strong cup with French Dark Roast coffee.

@strengthentheverbs I use an Aeropress amongst other things, and find it makes a good cup. I’ve seen somewhere you can get a metal filter for it which improves the taste as well. Haven’t tried one yet myself.

@strandlines We tried the metal filter and went back to paper. The coffee tasted... oily?

@Cheri ah, perhaps I’ll give that a miss then...

@strengthentheverbs Aeropress makes a great brew. However, it gets tedious if you need to make more than one cup at a time, as it’s a pain in the backside to use.

@milkthealmond @strandlines @bradenslen @JMaxB @garciabuxton @Vvdt @rexbarrett I think I'm going to go with a Kalita Wave stainless steal pour over and a gooseneck kettle. The least complicated option for brewing a single fresh cup each time. I just need to learn the steps for achieving the bloom and pouring effectively.
